Privacy
The site is mine (Lewis Inkster) and I’m the one who looks after anything you share through it. If you’ve got a question about any of this, or want something deleted, email me at lewis@lewink.co.uk and I’ll sort it.
If you send an enquiry
When you fill in the contact form I get your name, your email address and whatever you’ve written, which comes to me as an email and is also kept as a copy in the back end of the site, mainly so nothing gets lost if an email goes astray. I use it to reply to you and, if we end up working together, to get the job done. I keep enquiries for two years after we last spoke, then delete them, unless we’ve worked together, in which case I keep what I need for my accounts for five years after the 31 January tax return deadline for that year, which is what HMRC asks for.
If you’re choosing photos from a shoot
Proofing galleries are private pages that only open with the link I’ve sent you and your email address. When you open one, the site saves a small cookie so you don’t have to type your email in every time you come back, which lasts 60 days. The photos you tick, any notes you leave and the time you send your selection are saved so I know what to edit. The photos themselves are stored with Bunny, a storage company based in the EU and I delete a gallery once the job’s finished and paid.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they look at and roughly where they’ve come from. It’s a bit of a habit from years in marketing, if I’m being honest about it and it’s useful to know whether anyone actually makes it past the first page. It uses cookies (the ones starting with _ga, which last up to two years) and Google gets your IP address when it loads, although it doesn’t store it. I’ve turned off Google’s advertising and demographic features, so none of it is used to show you ads. Nothing is collected on the private proofing pages and if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal I treat that as a no from the start.
If you’d rather not be counted, you can turn it off here and the site will remember that in this browser.
Who else handles your data
A few companies help run the site and they only use what they’re given to do that job. Krystal hosts the site and its database in the UK, Google handles my email and Analytics, Bunny stores and streams photos and films and Cloudflare looks after the domain. Google is a US company, so some data goes to the US under the UK’s data bridge arrangements and Bunny is in the EU, which the UK treats as having equivalent protection. I don’t sell anything to anyone and I’m not sure who would want it.
Your rights
You can ask to see what I hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or ask me to stop using it and I’ll reply within a month. Day to day, the legal basis is simple: I use enquiry and proofing details because you’ve asked me to do something for you and analytics because I’ve got a legitimate interest in knowing how the site’s doing, which you can turn off above. If you think I’ve got something wrong I’d rather you told me first, but you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
